Trevor Lawrence faces one final indignity after Sugar Bowl loss: ‘Poor Trevor needs to shave his ‘stache’

Friday was a rough night for Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

The presumed top pick of the 2021 NFL Draft was outdueled by Ohio State counterpart Justin Fields in a 49-28 loss in the Sugar Bowl College Football Playoff semifinal, completing 33 of 48 passes for 400 yards and two touchdowns to one interception. He also fumbled three times (losing one) in what presumably will be the final game of his collegiate career.

Yet as bad as all that was, none of it compares to the scathing criticism Lawrence received after the game: An unidentified woman was heard saying, “Poor Trevor needs to shave his ‘stache” in the Zoom conference.

This video is an unintentional masterclass in comedy, from the woman’s halting interruption of Lawrence, the moderator’s request to mute the mic, Lawrence’s smirk and, finally, his deadpan “Thank you.”

While Lawrence’s facial hair may be a little wispy, it still didn’t deserve such a public rebuke, intentional or not. But hey, maybe he can spin that into a razor or shaving cream endorsement. Because, if you can’t laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at?
